Jafra Younes

An award-winning Syrian actress, a graduate of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus, Acting Department.
trained as an online student at Stella Adler’s Studio (The Art of Acting Studio) in Los Angeles, California.

The actress was a jury member at the semi-final round of judging event for the 2022 International Emmy Awards.

She received the Best Actress award at the London Independent Film Festival Awards in 2022 for her role at the short drama “Dreams drawn by dust”

And the best actress award in 2018, for her role in the short movie “The Labor” at Delhi’s International Film Festival in India, and the Certificate of Appreciation and a Shield of Excellence and Creativity from the Cairo Radio and Television Festival in 1999.

She also won the title of Best New Face in 2016 in the voting of many local platforms and radio stations.


The actress started working in television from the young age of 9, in a leading role at the television series Al-Jamal (1999), and went on to receive intensive training in acting and theatrical skills for 5 consecutive years with some of the most prominent Syrian actors in Teatro Institute for Performing Arts in Damascus, from 2003 to 2005.


Theatrically:

She participated in many theatrical works, which were performed several times in Damascus, as well as the Arab Theater Festival in Algeria, and the Carthage Festival in Tunisia. She also attended several workshops at the Damascus Theater Laboratory.
Some of her plays include:

  • Blood Throne, 2012 (Damascus).
  • Waiting for the rain, 2012 (Damascus).
  • Bar in Al-Hamra Street, 2013 (Damascus).
  • A Window, 2015, 2016, 2017 (Damascus, the Carthage Theater Festival in Tunisia, received a certificate of appreciation from the city of Sfax for her role in the play, the Arab Theater Festival in Algeria, and it was performed in several states in both countries).

The House always wins (an adaptation of the play: Look Back in Anger), 2020 (Damascus.

Also worked as:

Acting instructor at the Future Stars Institute, 2018 (Damascus).
Member of the jury in the 2nd Interactive Theater Festival under the supervision of UNFPA, 2018 (Damascus).

  • Starred in the movie “In Paradox”, which aired on Netflix.
  • Starred in the short film “Labor”, which was screened in several Arab and international festivals, for which she won the Best Actress Award for the Short Film Category at the Delhi International Film Festival.
As a director:

Directed the two short films “Wahdn” and “Rendezvous” which were screened at the Film Festival at the French Cultural Center in Damascus. (2006).
Directed a video art work “About love” and “Blanch”, which were screened at the Video Art Festi-val at the French Cultural Center in Damascus. (2009).


Television Series:

The actress starred in many Arab productions, in more than 15 television works with some of the most prominent Arab and Syrian directors, including Hatem Ali, Shawqi Al-Majri, Laith Hajjo, Yasser Sami and others.
